Sautéed Caramelized Pears makes an amazing topping for ice cream, bread pudding, waffles or any other special dessert that needs that fall or winter caramel fruit topping — to make you and your guests swoon.
This gourmet fruit “sauce” can be used for any real food diet, as it’s naturally sweetened with unrefined pure maple syrup — including Gluten-free, dairy-free, Paleo, AIP and Vegan diets.
You choose if this recipe is made with dairy or dairy-free. Both are great!
Jump to RecipeI’m not sure a more tempting dessert sauce exists than this Caramelized Pears recipe. When I made it, it was excruciatingly painful to not eat up spoonfuls of it before photographing the bowl’s beautiful contents.
You will love the simplicity of how easy it is to create caramel sauce after sautéing pears. And, you will love the flavor and texture of this topping/sauce.
How to serve Paleo Caramelized Pears
Serve with ice cream, as pictured. See some of my favorite Paleo ice cream recipes here. One more, too: Chai Ice Cream would also be great with Caramelized Pears.
Serve under Bread Pudding. Try this recipe, or I have several more on their way. We’ve been loving this combo!
Also enjoy this gourmet recipe with various gluten-free cakes, waffles and puddings, like:
- Paleo AIP Yellow Cake, Primal Keto Yellow Cake or GF Oat Flour Cake
- Paleo AIP Waffles, Paleo Sourdough Waffles or Nutritious GF Oat Waffles
- Sticky Toffee Pudding or Dairy-free Vanilla Custard
Ingredients in Sautéed Easy Caramelized Pears
- 2 large pears — They need to be under-ripe, or instead of caramelized pears, you’ll end up with pear sauce. 🙂
- heavy cream, or coconut cream for dairy-free
- butter, or coconut oil
- pure maple syrup
- real vanilla extract
- salt — This Kosher salt is my favorite, as it has a great flavor, and after thorough testing came back as the healthiest, void of all heavy metals, over all other natural sea salts or mined salts.
How to make Easy Caramelized Pears
Easy to cook up in a flash, this fruit sauce is more than special. Just be sure to buy unripe pears, so you don’t end up with pear sauce.
Here’s the method:
- Melt butter or coconut oil in sauté pan over medium-high heat. Add pears and sea salt. Sauté until pears begin to brown and soften a bit, about 8 to 10 minutes.
- Reduce heat to low. Add maple syrup, stirring to coat. (Be careful; the pan’s contents will sizzle and steam a bit.) Add vanilla. Add cream and de-glaze the pan.
- Garnish bread pudding, ice cream or other favorite with Caramelized Pears and pan sauce (creamy caramel).

Wow, Megan, phenomenal recipe!! I served this to my big family with teenagers, and they slurped up this dessert like it was the best one they’d ever eaten (I served it with ice cream, easy!) and then asked me about the recipe. Very impressive! It’s elegant, but apparently very good for teenage boys too, ha! Thank you for a fun pear winter dessert recipe!! We’ll be making this one again for sure.
