A special way to heighten pears' natural sweetness is to sauté and caramelize them! This recipe takes that method to another level and creates a creamy caramel sauce with the pan juices of the sautéed pears. Garnish any favorite dessert with this elegant fall and winter favorite.
Melt butter or coconut oil in sauté pan over medium-high heat. Add pears and sea salt. Sauté until pears begin to brown and soften a bit, about 8 to 10 minutes.
Reduce heat to low. Add maple syrup, stirring to coat. (Be careful; the pan's contents will sizzle and steam a bit.) Add vanilla. Add cream and de-glaze the pan, simmering 1 to 2 minutes as you stir, until creamy caramel sauce emerges.
Garnish bread pudding, ice cream or other favorite with Caramelized Pears and pan sauce.
