Tigernut Butter “Peanut Butter” Dessert Sauce is an amazing peanut buttery sauce that’s ridiculously delicious on cakes, ice cream, pancakes, waffles and more, or as a dipping/fondue style sauce for cake or fruit.
You’ll love this Paleo, AIP and Vegan condiment for dessert buffets, too — as a tempting topping for sundaes, or anywhere you’d offer a peanut butter dessert sauce. I love the inspiration this recipe provides. (It is very hard not to eat: It’s just SO yummy and has the perfect texture!)
Ingredients in Tigernut Butter “Peanut Butter” Dessert Sauce
- coconut or maple sugar
- water
- tiger nut butter
- maple syrup
- milk of choice — to fit your dietary needs (such as coconut milk, tiger nut milk, or even water is okay)
- real vanilla extract — Do not omit this ingredient if you plan to use the sauce on ice cream, as it helps to keep the sauce the right texture when it gets cold.
- pinches of salt, to taste
How to make Tigernut Butter “Peanut Butter” Dessert Sauce
- Whisk together your sweetener of choice, water and salt in a small saucepan over high heat. Bring to a boil; boil for one minute.
- Remove from heat. Use a whisk or small food processor. (I do whisk this recipe by hand, but it does take a few minutes of whisking; so the food processor makes the recipe faster.) Whisk in the tiger nut butter and maple syrup until well blended and smooth. At first, the “nut” butter will kind of “seize up” and be stubborn, but just keep whisking for it to become smooth. Add the milk as you whisk to get the right consistency.
- When smooth, whisk in the vanilla extract.
- Pour sauce over ice cream, cakes, pancakes, waffles and more. Use as a fondue dipping sauce for Paleo, AIP, Vegan cakes, fresh pineapple, strawberries, banana, apples etc.

Equipment
- whisk or small food processor
Ingredients
- ⅓ cup coconut sugar or maple sugar: Use maple sugar if you want a slightly lighter colored sauce, as pictured; either way, it will be darker than peanut butter because tigernut butter is dark.
- ¼ cup water
- 2 pinches of salt to taste
- ½ cup tiger nut butter
- 2 Tablespoons maple syrup
- 3 Tablespoons milk of choice, to fit your dietary needs (such as coconut milk, tigernut milk, or even more water is okay)
- 2 teaspoons real vanilla extract Do not omit this ingredient if you plan to use the sauce on ice cream, as it will help to keep it the right texture when it gets cold.

Add the milk as you whisk, as needed, to get the right consistency. (I don't like to add it all at once, to get any lumps out first.)
- When smooth, whisk in the vanilla extract.
- Pour slightly warm sauce over ice cream, cakes, pancakes, waffles and more. Use as a warm fondue dipping sauce for Paleo, AIP, Vegan cakes, fresh pineapple, strawberries, banana, apples etc.

Have you ever made your own tigernut butter as per various online recipes (basically, oil and tigernut flour)? And if so, have you tried it in this sauce? I haven’t purchased the butter ready made because it’s SO expensive where I am, so I can’t compare whether it’s a similar texture!

Hi Sarabeth, very understandable! Unfortunately, I haven’t made tigernut butter homemade, so I don’t know if it will work here, so sorry! I’ve gone for convenience with this one. 😉

Geesh, right? I’ve asked my tech person about it, because you’re not the only one!!, and it’s some change in the code that now does that. Always makes me sad, because I actually love and use emojis all the time, so when readers use them, I can’t actually see which ones they chose, just the ??? Oy!!! xo!
