Strawberry Orange Banana Smoothie is perhaps the most quintessential smoothie recipe there is. Instead of using store bought orange juice in this recipe, which has no living nutrients, we use one whole orange! The smooth creamy texture of this healthy treat is perfect for breakfast, snack or dessert.
Real food, dairy-free, Paleo, AIP, Vegan option, Gluten-free, GAPS and for most whole food diets.

For this smoothie recipe, we use:
- 1 banana, broken into bite size chunks and frozen
- 1 orange, peeled, separated into sections and cut into bite-size chunks and frozen
- a cup of strawberries, frozen
- milk of choice: almond, oat etc (depending on dietary choices)
- Some unusual healthy homemade favorite non-dairy milk options include: Vegan Bean Milk, Macadamia Nut Milk and Chestnut Milk.
- water — This saves money and also helps to create the perfect smoothie texture (instead of milk alone).
- maple syrup, or other unrefined sweetener, including agave (Use honey for GAPS.) — This smoothie can be unsweetened, but the sweetener heightens the flavor, which most people prefer. If you’re used to and prefer totally unsweetened healthier treats, yes, you can omit the sweetener entirely. But I recommend it otherwise, or if serving to guests.
- optional — collagen, or other preferred protein (including vegan options) — Perfect Supplements’ product is the best collagen (find it here); third party tested for pesticide residue. Use code BEAUTIFUL10 at checkout for 10% off your entire order.
Optional ingredients
In the above list, two ingredients are optional: the sweetener and the protein.
Additionally, you may want to add:
- DIY Electrolyte Powder
- or similar: potassium for electrolytes
- To add potassium to smoothies, use 1/8 teaspoon potassium chloride (find it here). This add-in is a great way to rehydrate. Potassium also helps with sleep and bowel regularity.
How to freeze fruit for smoothies
Here’s the best method for freezing fruit for smoothies:
- Line a plate, casserole dish or small pan with one piece of parchment or wax paper.
- Place bite-size pieces of fruits on the paper. Freeze until solid, about 3 hours.
- Once frozen, take all fruit and seal in plastic bag or freezer container with lid, squeezing out air if applicable.
- Freeze for up to 3 months.
Now the frozen fruit is ready for you when you need it, and it’s easy to measure or separate. The pieces will not freeze together in most cases.
How to make Strawberry Orange Banana Smoothie
- Place all frozen fruit into blender. Add 12 ounces milk and half the water. Blend until it’s too thick to blend. Use a spatula to pop any air bubble by the blade. Add remaining water, and blend again until smooth, pulsing as needed.
- Add optional sweetener and protein. Blend again until fully incorporated.
- Serve.
