How to Oven-Bake Applegate Farms Breakfast Sausages shares how to oven-bake these awesome breakfast staples. Instead of pan frying, which is trickier, messier, uses more fat and requires more time at the stove, cook up all you need on one handy sheet pan!
I avoid microwaving because one, we don’t own one, and two, you don’t get the same texture with microwaving.
The oven-baking method is the best, easiest approach — for big and small family breakfasts and brunches!
Applegate Naturals’ Breakfast Sausages are great for a variety of real food diets. I tend to be sensitive to unnatural ingredients, and my body loves these! Certified Gluten-free, Applegate’s Breakfast Sausages are also Paleo, Keto or Low Carb, Low Oxalate — and fine for the VAD diet and Low FODMAP, for some.
Jump to RecipeCan you bake Applegate sausage?
While the company doesn’t provide baking instructions, I think it’s actually the best method. And, oven-baking breakfast sausages is common with other brands.
(I will always remember the oven-baked breakfast sausages my mom made each Christmas morning, growing up!)
With oven-baking, you get:
- even cooking (with no cold middles)
- no worries about hovering over a stove top
- crispy edges, just like with pan frying
Is Applegate sausage already cooked?
Yes, Applegate Farms Sausages are already fully cooked.
The cooking instructions on the package help to first, defrost the frozen sausages, secondly, to heat, and thirdly, to create a somewhat crispy and browned exterior.
Can you cook frozen breakfast sausages in the oven?
Yes, that’s why we’re here today!
How to Oven-Bake Applegate Farms Breakfast Sausages provides the only oven-bake instructions for Applegate Farms Breakfast Sausages on the internet!
How long do you cook Applegate sausages for?
When pan frying or microwaving Applegate sausages, follow the directions on the package:
- For stove top, Applegate instructs, “Place in skillet over medium heat for 8-10 minutes.”
- While the Instructions don’t say this, I have also found that the stove top method works better when you use a lid for part of the cooking process to create steam. Otherwise, the outside is done cooking before the inside is fully hot.
- Cooking times vary depending on how many sausages you microwave.
When baking, Applegate’s breakfast sausages cook 12 to 15 minutes, depending on the variety.
How do you know when sausages are done in the oven?
Sausages will sizzle and be nicely browned when done.
They will not be shriveled, dull in color (no longer shiny) or too dark, signs they’ve cooked too long.
What are the flavors of Applegate sausages
We like all of the Applegate Breakfast Sausage flavors, but we also have our favorites:
- Coming in in first place, we love best their Chicken & Sage Sausage. This sausage has the classic breakfast sausage flavor. It tastes better than a pork sausage, in my opinion (but I no longer eat pork), but with that same nostalgic flavor.
- I can only link to the patties for this flavor, but at your local natural grocery store, look for the links (currently Sold Out), too, which is what I eat more of, but … both are good! (Use the patties on toast or for breakfast sandwiches.)
- Next up, there’s a tie. I prefer the Chicken & Maple Sausage, for second place, but I think the rest of my family puts their Chicken & Apple in second.
- One of my sons thinks the Chicken & Maple is too sweet, but I like it. So, it may or may not be your thing. This flavor now comes in Organic, too! (Although, keep in mind that all of Applegate’s meat is sustainably raised.) Chicken & Apple is now made in Organic as well. 🙂
- Chicken & Maple must be popular, because they also make this flavor in patties, here.
- Classic Pork comes in third. Here’s a classic you can count on, but not quite as good as the pork sausages I remember from my childhood.
- Without a doubt, fourth prize goes to Savory Turkey. This one’s okay, but it dries out the most easily, and it’s spiciness is just not as delicious. When I eat this one, I like to have some hummus or something with it, to balance it.
- We haven’t tried their newest flavor yet, but Applegate Naturals also just came out with a No Sugar Chicken & Herb. Most of their flavors contain scant sugar anyway (avoid their Chicken & Maple and Chicken & Apple if you don’t eat sugar/honey).
As you can see from my honesty about each flavor, this article is not sponsored in any way! We just LOVE Applegate breakfast sausages and eat them ALL the time.
So … I’m sharing this oven-bake method, since it’s a winning method that’s under-utilized!
Ingredients to bake Applegate Farms Sausages
In addition to the frozen breakfast sausages, you need one ingredient to oven-bake:
- olive oil — or avocado oil (Another kind of fat would be fine here, too, but avoid vegetable oils.) Only a small amount of fat is used, to grease the pan.
- The oven-bake method uses less fat than pan frying!
How to cook Applegate Farms Sausages
To make oven-baked Applegate Farms Breakfast Sausages, find the shortened cooking instructions here (just below), or scroll down a bit to the recipe card itself to see fully detailed instructions.
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Lightly grease a baking sheet pan with olive oil or avocado oil. Add sausage links, or patties, trying to make sure they don’t touch, or not much.
- Bake in preheated oven 13 to 15 minutes total. At about the 10 minute mark, shake the pan carefully to turn most of the sausages, or remove the pan from the oven, and use two forks (or similar) to rotate each sausage. Bake the additional 2 to 5 minutes until browned and sizzling.
Special Notes:
- The Chicken and Apple flavor burns more easily. This variety starts out darker (still frozen), and it will blacken if baked for too long. The cooking time for this flavor is shorter. See Recipe card below for more details.
- Bake Applegate Farms breakfast sausage patties for a shorter time. Otherwise, they dry out. See Recipe card below for more detailed Instructions and cooking times.
What to eat with Applegate Breakfast Sausages
Link sausages are a classic alongside many traditional breakfasts.
But they also replace eggs really well, for those who can’t or don’t eat eggs — but still want a breakfast protein.
Famous for being easy, the patties are great for breakfast sandwiches:
- Use inside biscuits or English muffin.
- Top gluten-free toast, sourdough or grain-free toast.
Serve breakfast links for the holidays or when entertaining. After oven-baking, put out for guests amidst platters of fruit, oatmeal, pancakes, waffles, pastries, or whatever else you’re serving.
Sausage links will always be a favorite at breakfast and brunch gatherings.
Oven-Baked Applegate Farms Breakfast Sausages Recipe
Equipment
Ingredients
- 1 or more packages Applegate Farms Breakfast Sausages any variety (I have linked to the Chicken & Maple Flavor ^^^, but see the main article to read more about each flavor. Most of them are very good.); this amount of oil will work for up to 6 packages of link sausages (when feeding a crowd)
- 1 Tablespoon olive oil or avocado oil (other natural fats are fine, too)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350℉.
- Lightly grease a baking sheet pan with olive oil or avocado oil. Add sausage links, or patties, trying to make sure they don't touch, or not much.Make sure that the pan size correlates to how many sausages you are cooking. A standard "half sheet" baking pan will hold 6 packages of sausage links. (If you're feeding a bigger crowd, fine to use two pans, and double the oil so you have enough to grease each one.)
- Bake in preheated oven 13 to 15 minutes total. At about the 10 minute mark, shake the pan carefully to turn most of the link sausages, or remove the pan from the oven, and use two forks (or similar) to rotate/flip each sausage. Bake the additional 2 to 5 minutes until browned and sizzling.CHICKEN AND APPLE VARIETY: See Notes below for cooking time.SAUSAGE PATTIES: See Notes below for cooking time.NOTE: To create extra-brown crispy exteriors, do not shake the pan or rotate sausages quite as soon. Wait until the 12 minute mark before rotating. The bottom of each sausage (that's touching the oil and the pan) is what gets crispy first.
Notes
Special Notes:
- The Chicken and Apple flavor burns more easily. This variety starts out darker (still frozen), and it will blacken if baked for too long. The cooking time for this flavor is shorter:
- Bake 2 to 5 minutes less time overall with this flavor.
- Bake Applegate Farms breakfast sausage patties for a shorter time. Otherwise, they dry out:
- Bake 2 to 5 minutes less time overall with this shape.
The following nutritional data is for the Chicken and Sage flavor, which is fine for Keto.
Two of their flavors have sugar or honey and should be avoided for low carb and no sugar diets: Chicken & Maple and Chicken & Apple (lightly sweetened with honey only).Nutrition

I love this post, thank you!! We also love buying this product, so it’s nice to have an easier method. With a family of 6, there’s a lot of rotating at the stove going on otherwise. I know you understand!

These sausages look amazing, I gotta try them asap! These are some great tips! I love making my sausages in the oven too, it’s so much easier than stove top. Especially if you need to use oil and it splatters everywhere.

Yes, exactly! I always have that sponge ready after stove-top cooking of sausages! 😉 Thank you! You’ll love Applegate! It’s so nice to have a healthier product that’s also raised with more kindness. 🙂
