Ingredients in Best Blueberry Smoothie
This smoothie is dairy-free and refined sugar-free. You’ll taste the true blueberry flavor with a creamy base with these simple healthy ingredients:
- blueberries, fresh or frozen
- banana, frozen — If you can’t eat banana, alternatives are: frozen peaches (choose white for VAD), or freeze 8 ounces of non-dairy yogurt in ice cube tray, and sub in.
- non-dairy milk of choice, such as oat or almond, or AIP milk (Try to choose “clean milks” with 3 ingredients [no oils or vitamins], or make your own.)
- coconut sugar — Okay to sub pure maple syrup (or honey for GAPS).
- optional — *collagen powder: Adds 10 grams of protein, so choose this option if you’re enjoying your smoothie for a meal or to increase your overall protein intake easily. For Vegan, choose your preferred protein powder. (*Use link and then code BEAUTIFUL10 at check out for 10% off your entire order.)
How to make Best Blueberry Smoothie
- Add all ingredients to high-powered blender. Blend until smooth.
- If all of your fruit (or yogurt) is frozen, you may need to use a smoothie stick to press down solids, or turn off the machine to remove air bubbles by the blade, then restart, intermittently until smooth (if you don’t have a smoothie stick). This recipe creates a thick slushie smoothie when frozen ingredients are used.
- Serve!
PRO TIP: Because this smoothie ends up thick, it’s helpful to blend it on one of the lowest speeds. This helps the blades to grab the fruit and purée it.
Personally, I find that this recipe has the perfect ratio of ingredients, so I do not need to stop the motor or use a smoothie stick, as long as I blend on the lower speeds.
What makes this blueberry smoothie the best
Best Blueberry Smoothie is the best because it’s the healthiest and the best tasting blueberry smoothie recipe. It’s the healthiest for these reasons:
- non dairy — Choose the milk that works best for your body, but dairy isn’t ideal for most people.
- refined sugar-free — No white sugar because it’s not healthy. Coconut sugar is a great alternative, and affordable.
- banana alternative — For those who can’t have bananas, two alternatives are given. (Just ask in the comments if you need a third option.) Meanwhile, if you do include the banana, it’s high in potassium and an excellent “clean” food.
- collagen option — It’s ideal to have protein with most meals, so this option is provided. Collagen is flavorless, has no noticeable texture, and it’s by far the healthiest protein powder for our bodies.
- no extra ingredients that cause issues over time — A lot of smoothie recipes add things like chia seeds (estrogenic, high in lectins and oxalates), greens (wrought with issues), maca (high in carotenoids), cacao (so high in copper) or hemp seeds (high in PUFAs). This smoothie gives us just what we need for a simple, nutritious, delicious treat, but doesn’t complicate the recipe with extra ingredients that are likely to cause health issues while masquerading as “super foods”. Keep it simple for the best balance in life. Many foods that cause short term improvement create long term damage (by transferring issues to the liver and other tissues where they build up).
