How to Make 6 AIP Paleo Frostings: Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry & more shares six AIP frosting recipes for all your cake, cookie and decorating needs. Whether it’s a birthday, Valentine’s Day or another special occasion, these recipes are faithfully dairy-free, egg-free, nut-free, cocoa-free and deliciously anti-inflammatory!
Six frosting flavors
The first recipe below includes two recipes: both Vanilla and Cinnamon Buttercreams, with two fat options from which to choose.
Next, you’ll find two options for “chocolate” frostings — each with totally different ingredients, other than the carob, to include more of you with food sensitivities.
The final two recipes provide pink frostings: One is pink with strawberries, and the other is colored with beets.
So choose your frosting based on what flavor you want, or based on your unique dietary needs.
Special occasions on the Paleo AIP diet have never been so easy, fun or delicious. I especially love cake with frosting, so this is a fun round up of recipes to share with you!
6 AIP Paleo Frostings to enjoy
1. and 2. Basic AIP “Buttercream” Frosting
This one can be enjoyed as either Cinnamon or Vanilla Frosting. The original version of this recipe was cinnamon and made with lard. But I updated it to include a palm shortening version with vanilla to meet more people’s needs — as palm shortening is more commonly used, and Vanilla is a great flavor to have.
This recipe swirls and pipes to perfection! You can get exquisite piping detail with this frosting.
BOTH flavors are great, so use either. Find Basic AIP “Buttercream” Frosting HERE. Use this coconut-free recipe for beautiful layer cakes and even on cookies. I don’t love this one eaten off a spoon by itself, but it’s fabulous and unbeatable in and on layer cakes.
3. Paleo AIP Chocolate Frosting
This traditional chocolate frosting is obviously made with carob, being AIP. But, it’s actually hard to tell that it’s not chocolate-based. It’s rich, but also whips up lightly, and it’s easy to pipe and swirl.
A lot like a traditional whipped ganache recipe, this frosting is amazing on cakes and cupcakes.
4. AIP Banana-Avocado “Chocolate” Frosting
AIP Banana-Avocado “Chocolate” Frosting is arguably the healthiest frosting out there, and it’s SO delicious! Made with carob, healthy produce, a little fat and scant sweetener, enjoy this pudding-like frosting:
- on cakes and cupcakes
- by itself as pudding
- as a filling in berries (see photo)
Smooth and light in texture, most of its sweetness comes from the banana. This recipe is also Vegan.
5. Pink Paleo AIP Buttercream Frosting with Strawberries
Deliciously flavored, and strawberry, this pretty pink frosting is perfect for Valentine’s, to make treats “pretty in pink” or for girl-themed parties.
Choose this Strawberry Buttercream when you want to put on thicker layers, as it has a great flavor.
6. Pink AIP Frosting with Beet Powder
If you want something faster than the strawberry recipe, this one works great: Just stir in the right amount of beet powder!
This Pink Paleo AIP Frosting with Beet Powder recipe shares how to make light pink, medium pink or darker pink frosting. This simple recipe gives you a pretty condiment with which to decorate cookies, cakes and cupcakes.
Choose this beet-based recipe when you need thinner layers of frosting, as the flavor isn’t as good as the strawberry recipe, but it works great for decorating cookies, or in thin layers on cakes or cupcakes.
