How to Make PINK Paleo AIP Frosting with Beet Powder shares how to make light pink, medium pink or darker pink frosting with just Paleo AIP Buttercream Frosting and beet powder. This simple recipe gives you a pretty condiment with which to decorate cookies, cakes and cupcakes.
Because the frosting tastes a little like beets, it’s a nice frosting to use when you just want a thin layer, or if you plan to also add sprinkles, fruit or other flavorful toppings/decorations.
If you’d rather make Paleo AIP Pink Frosting from strawberries, see this recipe.

This recipe uses just two ingredients, but the first one is a frosting recipe, so I’ll include those ingredients here, too, so you can see what you’ll need:
- Paleo AIP Buttercream Frosting (full recipe here)
- palm shortening — (This is the best variety and brand.) or lard — (Like this, not leaf lard.)
- honey
- water
- gelatin
- sea salt
- organic beet powder (this one) — This one dehydrated and powdered vegetable ingredient does it all! It beautifully and easily colors frosting.
When it comes time to make the whole recipe, link through to the Paleo AIP Frosting recipe, to make it first.
How to Make PINK Paleo Frosting with Beet Powder
The photos in this post show the Medium Pink Frosting color. Follow the guidelines below for lighter or darker pink colors as well:
- For light pink frosting — To 3/4 cup frosting, beat in 1/2 teaspoon beet powder.
- To make medium pink frosting (pictured) — For 3/4 cup frosting, beat in 1 teaspoon beet powder.
- For darker pink frosting — To 3/4 cup frosting, beat in 2 teaspoons beet powder.
The light and medium pinks will be best for most people flavor-wise, but if you love darker pink and the beet flavor, go for the darkest color.
What else to use to decorate pink cookies, cakes and cupcakes
When it comes time to decorate, frosting is the only embellishment you really need. But most of us like to have other decorations, too.
True Paleo decorations are usually naturally sourced, for example: berries or other fruits.
Or, a few products exist that are Paleo-friendly or more natural but not totally Paleo, that you can buy. Here’s a list of both:
- blueberries, sliced strawberries, any other berry: whole or sliced
- pomegranate arils
- freeze dried organic fruits — This variety pack includes strawberries, blueberries and bananas.
- coconut sugar chocolate chips — A newer product made without white sugar.
- carob chips — These carob chips are really good.
- Homemade Paleo Chocolate Chips — six flavors and colors
- organic crystallized ginger
- naturally colored sprinkles (rainbow or chocolate sprinkles) — These follow an 80:20 type Paleo diet because while they’re naturally colored, they do still contain sugar and cornstarch.
- “supernatural” twinkles — These sprinkles twinkle, and they’re made with just a few simple ingredients, but they are made with non-GMO cane sugar.
- vegan white chocolate chips — Same as above, not totally Paleo, but dairy-free and pretty natural ingredients.
I used sprinkles on the cookies I photographed because it’s what I had in my cupboard. But I personally love decorating with frosting + fruit the best. And then the other options listed above are really fun occasionally.
I hope you have a fun creative decorating process!
