I don’t know how to prepare you for how mightily delicious this drink is! The first taste I had of it, I was like: “Perfection!”
It’s not too sweet, and the spiciness and lemon are just-right. While many lemonades don’t satisfy, so we just keep drinking down glasses of them, this one really hits the spot. Each sip answers the deep thirsty need.
Even a couple sips of these simple ingredients, combined in the right quantities with one another, will have you feeling pleased as punch!
The five simple ingredients are:
- water
- lemon juice
- honey
- ginger root
- sea salt, or I recommend either: Potassium Salt or Homemade Electrolyte Powder, for more of the electrolyte minerals we need
Which minerals are the most important in an electrolyte drink
When it comes to electrolytes, the minerals we need most after exercise are: Sodium, Potassium and, to a lesser degree, Magnesium.
Making Electrolyte Ginger Lemonade with sea salt will surely rehydrate you and leave you feeling better, if not awesome!
But do choose either the Potassium Salt or Homemade Electrolyte Powder if the electrolyte aspect of this recipe is extra important to you, to more fully replenish lost minerals.
How to make Electrolyte Ginger Lemonade
Here’s how to make Electrolyte Ginger Lemonade:
- Stir or whisk together all ingredients, in large pitcher or mason jar with lid, until honey and sea salt are fully dissolved.
- Chill if desired. Optionally serve over ice. (I actually love this drink room temperature or cool, but don’t prefer it ice cold for best rehydration … personally!)
Serve!
Why is ginger healthy
Ginger helps with digestion and motility. It helps our bodies to assimilate hydration: our cells to draw in water and minerals.
Mineral-wise, ginger itself contains some potassium, selenium and magnesium — all minerals we need regularly.
Ginger even helps with blood sugar regulation. In one of many studies, ginger improved lipid profiles and benefited glucose control, insulin sensitivity, and blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes.
The spicy nature of ginger also helps us to feel satiated.
Electrolyte Ginger Lemonade (lightly honey-sweetened)
Equipment
- pitcher or 4-cup mason jar
Ingredients
- 2-½ cups water
- ¼ cup lemon juice fresh, from 1 large lemon
- 2 Tablespoons honey
- 1 teaspoon ginger root freshly grated to measure
- ⅛ teaspoon sea salt or I recommend either: Potassium Salt or Homemade Electrolyte Powder, for more of the electrolyte minerals we need. (The nutritional data below would thus change, providing you with over 200 mg of potassium.)
Instructions
- Stir or whisk together all ingredients, in large pitcher or mason jar with lid, until honey and sea salt are fully dissolved.
- Chill if desired. Optionally strain through fine mesh strainer, and optionally serve over ice. (For rehydrating, I prefer this drink not too cold [chilled but no ice].) Serve!Regarding straining, your Electrolyte Ginger Lemonade will have the full and delicious ginger flavor simply from whisking the ingredients together. The finely grated ginger will sink to the bottom of serving glasses if you choose not to strain, but it's not needed for flavor. I prefer to strain it out as it's an easy step, but also fine to leave it in.
Notes
Fresh herb variation
If you love summery flavors and want to make this drink more special, perhaps for a party: Sub Basil Simple Syrup for the honey. Garnish with fresh lemon slices and sprigs of fresh basil leaves.Nutrition
