In this article, Zeolite Health Benefits: Which One to Choose for Your Needs, we look at the three best zeolites, and what makes them superior. And how to use them — for various symptoms, conditions and dosing.
Health benefits of zeolite
As I introduce this topic, I’ll add that not only do my family and I take zeolite, but I’m also part of a health community that uses zeolite. So some of the health benefits I’ve seen are from testimonies within the group. I love this, because it adds to the usual medical insights, but also corroborates them.
Overcome:
- stubborn weight you want to lose
- copper and other heavy metal toxicity
- ammonia toxicity
- Epstein Barr Virus
- pathogen overgrowth
- leaky gut
- “leaky bile” (coined by my doctor, who I recommend)
- eczema
- tinea versicolor
- infertility
- estrogenic symptoms (like cramps and PMS related)
- hair loss
- bone loss
- some symptoms of autism
- constipation
- food sensitivities
- joint pain
- bad insect bites, tick bites (and aid Lyme recovery)
- mold toxicity
- a variety of bowel movement problems
- mental health challenges
- behavioral challenges in children
- high stress
- sugar cravings
- gut infections
- sinus issues
- brain fog
And the list just goes on and on! Zeolite can work in conjunction with other supplements, but it can also single-handedly be a game changer for any number of symptoms.
Why zeolite works
Why and how zeolite works to accomplish all this is: It grabs onto toxins that each wreak their own havoc. I’m going to give you just two examples:
- Pathogens feed on heavy metals. Zeolite ushers heavy metals from the body. With reduced heavy metals, the pathogens starve and die. As a result, digestion, skin conditions and other issues related to pathogenic overgrowth disappear.
- Copper is estrogenic. Estrogen causes increased fat. When copper is ushered from the body by zeolite, many people report weight loss! People who have struggled for years, suddenly lose stomach fat and overall experience really encouraging weight loss.
More benefits exist as well. When zeolite grabs on to heavy metals and ammonia, health conditions reverse, and the body is more able to heal itself.
THE THREE BEST BRANDS OF ZEOLITE
These three products work the best to help detox the body, and I’ll share why with each one:
1. Clinoptilolite Zeolite by Heiltropfen
This product is 5-star quality and affordable. My family uses it daily.
Clinoptilolite zeolite is superior to other zeolites because:
- it’s 100% natural and pure, and contains no fillers, binders or additives
- of its detox and anti-inflammatory properties
- it possesses a high adsorptive capacity
- of its ability to selectively exchange ions, allowing it to remove pollutants and contaminants, including heavy metals and ammonia
- it’s been shown to improve intestinal health and the health of the immune system
- of its anti-viral properties
- it’s linked to improved brain health
It’s great for general detox, leaky gut, leaky bile and better bowel movements.
Why this one’s less expensive but you have to use more
Side note on this product: Because it’s naturally occurring and hasn’t been cleaned from how it is found in nature, it does not have as much capacity for storage of human toxins. For this reason, you have to use more of this product than the third product I review below. This capacity issue is why it costs less. However, it’s still an excellent product: If you need help healing your gut lining, with food sensitivities or pooping better, having more bulk zeolite in your intestines is actually helpful.
Find Heiltropfen Zeolite here.
2. TRS liquid Zeolite spray
I’ve used TRS for several years and will continue to stock it and use it for our family.
I first learned about it in a moms of autistic children forum where many parents see their kids go from nonverbal to verbal from the use of TRS. Because it’s nano-particle, it crosses the blood-brain barrier and detoxes the brain better than other forms of zeolite (or at least faster and more directly. There are no studies that compare the effects of powdered vs TRS on autism recovery that I know of.)
Here’s one mom’s quote paraphrased by me: “My son was diagnosed with autism almost exactly two years ago. Before starting TRS, he was mostly nonverbal, very socially awkward, and anxious. Just weeks after beginning TRS, he began speaking โ first words, then full sentences. By the end of that pre-K year, he was already reading words, and he was only 4 years old at the time. Now, at 5, he’s in kindergarten, reading full books, holding conversations and answering questions with ease.”
Topical use
TRS can also be used topically, and it’s nothing short of amazing for various first aid needs. We’ve seen overnight results and immediate results using it for chemical vapors, sunburns, kitchen-type burns, canker sores, rashes, insect stings and bites, and painful eye injuries.
TRS is sterile, totally clean and non contaminated. The bottles are pricey, but the effective dose for mental health and first aid needs is pretty low. I always buy the 3-pack and keep the bottles in my natural Rx pantry ready when I need them. I used to use TRS daily for all my detox needs and could feel it working in my brain.
To buy TRS, go here (and click Shop Now). Choose “Advanced TRS”. I buy the 3-pack in glass bottles.
3. Best overall zeolite: Zeocharge
Zeocharge is also clinoptilolite zeolite (like product #1 above).
I learned about Zeocharge from my doctor after I’d been taking both of the zeolites listed above for a while. I was taking so very much of the first product because of my heavy copper toxicity and that brand’s smaller storage capacity for toxins (which requires you to take more).
He shared that with Zeocharge, only 1/6 the amount is needed (for most people), so you actually save money using it, even though it costs more per canister. I switched, and love the cleaner texture, and that I can now take just a small amount.
After contacting the owner of this company, I can happily offer my readers a 10% off code, too! Here’s the website, and use code MEGANSTEVENS at checkout.
Zeocharge has a great and very educational website to learn more about the superiority of the product. After reading more about it, just don’t forget to use your discount code.
Dosing
It’s really important to know one thing about zeolite dosing: If you take too little, you can stir up more toxins than the zeolite can store.
You need to take enough to grab on to any toxins that are released by the zeolite. If you get symptoms, you need more zeolite, not less. Please read more here to fully understand the higher dose concept.
For each of the three zeolites my family and I use, I give the company or doctor-recommended zeolite dose:
- Clinoptilolite Zeolite by Heiltropfen dosing: A starting dose of 10g is recommended for a 150 pound person, but can be adjusted based on weight or toxicity symptoms. If you experience a detox reaction, take more, not less (up to 30g or more, taken once a day). I was taking 180g of this product, so you can go quite high if symptoms indicate. Just make sure you’re still pooping well. Typically, this product helps with poops.
- TRS dosing suggestion by the company: Start the first day with 1 spray, then increase each day, assuming no major detox symptoms occur, gradually by 1 spray, until you reach 5 sprays daily, 2 in the morning, 3 at night. Also use additional sprays for acute needs, when exposed to toxic elements, such as chemical fumes (paint, perfumes, fragrances, smoke etc).
- Zeocharge dosing: Start with 10g to 30g, based on speculated toxicity. Watch this video for a broader explanation. Both 20g and 30g were a little low for me (stirred up toxins and caused mild symptoms, so I needed more zeolite storage). I now take 40g nightly, and it also helps me sleep my best. Over time, you can reduce dose. Deeper levels of detox are accomplished with the higher dose (your body releases deeply stored toxins). Watch the video linked to (listen closely toward the end), to learn their suggested path to a deep 5-month detox process.
Adding zeolite to activated charcoal
Yes, you can take zeolite and activated charcoal together. I do this nightly, as they both adsorb different toxins.
When taken together, zeolite and charcoal can be taken shortly after a meal, about thirty minutes, or up to one hour.

Hi, Megan ๐ I so appreciate all the detailed information you give in all your posts!! So helpful! I recently read your article on Bentonite Clay. I bought the product you recommended. Then I read your article on Zeolite. My questions are:
1. Should Bentonite Clay and Zeolite be taken together? If so, what would the amounts of each look like?
2. Are they similar products? Can/should they be taken together?
3. Is either product preferable over the other? Does it depend on each individuals health goals?
4. Are either/both products good for leaky gut healing?
5. I have a family member suffering with leaky gut due to long term NSAID use – no end in sight due to health issues, would Zeolite help? Or would the Bentonite clay be a better option?
Thanks so very much for all the help you give!!
Megan says
Hi Lisa, I’m so glad the posts are helpful! Both supplements adsorb radiation, microplastics, metals, aflatoxin and pharmaceuticals; both attract hydrogen and help the body overcome pathogenic overgrowth. One main benefit of zeolite over bentonite clay is that zeolite aids bowel movements, and BC can (but doesn’t necessarily) constipate. Everyone is unique, so testing both separately could have a benefit. Bentonite clay is more affordable, and you can take less. I don’t think there’s a real benefit to taking both at the same time. I can speak from experience that zeolite is very healing to a leaky gut. Bentonite clay is helpful as well, but maybe not to the same extent, again, because of the effect each one has on the intestines and bowel movements. Zeolite protectively fills, coats, soothes and pulls, allowing the gut lining to fully heal and preventing the ongoing leaking of toxins and food particles into the system. Overall, I think zeolite is the best option. It’s what I’ve landed on for myself, even though BC has undeniable benefits. Happy to help! ๐

Thank you Megan! This is Lisa Gomes that used live in Bend, then Arizona and then Missoula – now we’re back in Oregon!! I can hardly wait to get going on the Zeolite๐ Smooches!!
Megan says
Thank you for reminding me!! I remember those smooches ๐ , and yay! So glad you’re back in Oregon!! Wonderful that you’re starting on zeolite, and so sweet to connect again, as always!๐
Maggie Williams says
Can you mix the zeolite with juice? I don’t think I can get my husband or grandkids
to try drinking it plain.
Megan says
Hi Maggie, yes, you can, and if you choose the ZeoCharge brand, it’s very smooth and has a pleasant enough quality. (The other brand is more clay/dirt-like.)
Maggie Williams says
Since you mentioned a clay/dirt-like texture, can you use it topically? Maybe a mask on your skin?
Megan says
Hi Maggie, yes, good question. Zeolite can be used topically as a mask, in baths, dusted in shoes for athlete’s foot etc. ๐
Maggie Williams says
Great. Thank you, Megan. I just got my powder that I ordered here on your site. I’m a little nervous about starting. I’m in the LYL program, so I’ve been asking questions there and plan to be on the Office Hours call tomorrow with Nathan. I really like your site and enjoy your weekly emails.
Megan says
Great Maggie, and I hope your time in Office Hours is helpful. Hopefully some additional word from Nathan will help you feel like you have a good roadmap for proceeding with zeolite. Glad to know you’re in LYL! I pray you don’t feel nervous going forward and get amazing results. Thank you for your encouragement and kind words! ๐

Meganโ Iโve been taking advanced TRS zeolite for about 5 months per your recommendation and itโs been extremely helpful in my detox journey! It greatly reduces anxiety, especially around my cycle.
Iโm curious to try zeocharge which Iโve heard is a great histamine binder.
I hold your recommendations in high regard and appreciate the wise counsel
Megan says
Wonderful to hear, Deniz!: Both about the TRS (YAY!) and you starting ZeoCharge. So thankful for both! Thank you for your kind words!
Heather says
Hi Megan! Thank you for the in-depth article! I see on the zeocharge website that itโs $60 for 150 grams. If someone starts with 30 grams that $60 canister will only last 5 days! Am I doing my math right? Do you go through a canister that quickly?
Megan says
Hi Heather!, you’re welcome, and unfortunately, yes. I consider it that important. I bought their bulk pack to do the 5 month detox. It’s a big investment, but I can’t think of a more direct way to heal and detox the body, other than diet. I consider it worth it, but I know it has to be budgeted in, and that can be hard. When someone can do the smaller dose, that’s another approach. That’s what I have my teenage son doing, as we can’t afford to have the whole family doing the high dose at one time. I also liked the bulk purchase because then I don’t feel overwhelmed going through a canister so quickly; I have so many more in my cupboard, and I’m just taking it in stride and as a blessing to have it.
Denise Rahjes says
Hi Megan:
I have interstitial cystitis and was wondering if you think Zeolite would be helpful or would it cause worsening of symptoms? And which Zeolite product would you recommend to help best with this condition? Usually, I have to work up to full dosing of any supplement to avoid flares and I see that full dosage needs to be taken at the start with this product. Thanks for any help or suggestions.
Megan says
Hi Denise, great questions. The ZeoCharge is best, and yes, I think you’ll find it helpful. As I mentioned, as did you, the dosing is a little counterintuitive, because you need to take more to avoid the symptoms, as it’s adsorbing the problematic elements that cause symptoms, and you need to be sure anything new that’s freed up will also be captured. I personally take 55g of ZeoCharge nightly, which obviously is very high, but I am dealing with some pretty major copper toxicity. I don’t want you to feel afraid of getting the dose “wrong” the first time. All that will happen is that you’ll decide to go up or down the next night. If you’re uncomfortable from the symptoms, you could even take that next dose in the morning to try and compensate. It’s a just little experimenting (meaning, possible a few days to a week) to find what helps the most (it’s worth the time it takes), and hopefully leaves you symptom free or much improved. You could start with the suggested 30g and go from there… (Are you already fruit-free, or have you already found the ideal diet for your body that reduces symptoms? I mention this piece, because while the zeolite will do some major work, my kidneys, and thus my entire UTI health, still feels best when I am fruit-free. I’m not sure if you’ve already read the article about food intolerances.)
Denise Rahjes says
Thank you so much, Megan, for your advice and suggestions. I will try your dosing recommendations for the Zeolite and see what happens! I eliminated fruit from my diet for years and have recently started eating a few apples without problems. It gets so hard to eat low oxalate, low histamine and anti-inflammatory!
Megan says
Happy to help, Denise. ๐ I understand that and was in your boat, exactly. With a low vitamin A diet, all that went away. The low oxalate diet I transitioned to medium oxalate, and now I don’t have to think about oxalates or histamines anymore. So, it’s worth the sacrifices and time it takes.
Marjorie says
Megan, thanks so much for this article. I have some zeolite that an herbalist recommended a few years ago; I’m assuming it is still good in quality until it’s time to get the Powder you recommend.
The Zeolite has her herbal brand on the package (Organic Heirloom Plants) and the package says, “Micronized Clinoptilotite Powder.” I’m hoping it’s the same product as your #1 choice in this post.
Aside from that, I’ve heard many people recommend going fruit-free. Do you have a blog post with that information? as you mentioned how important it is in the previous comment.
Thanks for sharing with all of us! Marjorie
Megan says
Hi Marjorie, happy to help. ๐ It sounds like your current zeolite is a good one to use until it’s gone. ๐ Yes, there are a few articles, depending on which is the most helpful: Here‘s the one about me personally going fruit-free for my IC. Here I share the definition of a food intolerance, and how it’s different from a sensitivity or allergy. And lastly, here‘s the master fruit list, if you decide to eliminate fruit, that includes foods most people don’t know digest as fruit.
Megan says
Also keep in mind that with your current zeolite, you’ll need a higher dose than with the ZeoCharge. I was taking almost 200 mg of that lower adsorption variety.
Marjorie says
Thank you Megan for providing me with your links on the topics I had questions about!! I’m looking forward to reading about it tomorrow. So Grateful! -Marjorie
Megan says
My pleasure! ๐
Dorothy says
Do I understand that your family is taking two off the powdered zeolite products, both of the ones you recommend? And if a family member is taking a low dose, is that sufficient to help them?
Weโre ahead taking TRS, so if we leave that off and only keep it as a back up, one of the zeolite powders might be more affordable. We have a need for help with dementia, so if it helps the brain, it might be good to try taking it in powder form. I tend to think the less expensive one would be best since itโs a larger container, but if weโre taking more, it might not last long. Do you actually save in the long run in getting the more expensive one? I think you mentioned it being more pleasant to drink dissolved in water as well.
Megan says
Hi Dorothy, good questions, ones many people debate similarly: Which one is the better deal? Ultimately, I’ve landed on ZeoCharge, because I was having to go SO high with the other brand to be symptom-free. ZeoCharge is more effective per scoop, so you use less. I think money-wise, it’s a break even, with taking a lower dose of ZeoCharge, and you end up with better results and yes, a more enjoyable “drink”. We still give my son the Heil. brand, just enough to detox the “low hanging fruit” and not enough to stir up any deeper toxicity. For dealing with dementia, I’d use the better product and figure out your best dose based on symptoms and budget.
